Badgers use big second half

to roll over Ashdown on road

ASHDOWN -- Arkadelphia junior quarterback Cannon Turner may have just had one complete pass Friday night at Dick Hayes Stadium, but he made up for it on the ground as he led the Badgers to a 44-12 victory over the Ashdown Panthers.

Turner was 1-for-8 on the night for two yards, but he had 13 carries for 113 yards, including a 32-yard breakaway to lead the Badger offense. Senior kicker Gabe Goodman was the team's second-leading scorer, picking up a quarter of the team's points with five extra point kicks and three field goals, including a 41-yard shot to end the scoring in the first half.

Senior Zion Hatley scored the first two touchdowns for the Badgers for a 14-0 lead, but the Panthers responded with a pair of touchdowns early in the second quarter to pull within 14-12 after a failed kick and failed conversion.

Goodman then put the Badgers ahead, 20-12, with two field goals, the first a 29-yard attempt before his game-long 41-yarder.

Arkadelphia shut out the Panthers in the second half with Goodman hitting another field goal for the only points in the third frame before the Badgers added three more touchdowns, including a 14-yard interception return by junior Jayson Campbell.

Hatley had 12 carries for 45 yards and two scores, and Braeden Thomas had a 40-yard carry.
