A routine traffic stop early Saturday resulted in the arrest of a Camden man on multiple felony charges after a gun, drugs and paraphernalia were found and he was determined to be a previously convicted felon.

D'Anthony Montez Shaw, 26, was taken into custody shortly before 1 a.m. and charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, punishable by up to life in prison, unauthorized use of another person's property to facilitate certain crimes and possession of a firearm by certain persons, each punishable by up to 20 years, possession of a controlled substance, ecstasy, with purpose to deliver and possession of cocaine with purpose to deliver, punishable by up to 10 years, and misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, with purpose to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shaw was being held without bond and was set to appear Tuesday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Hot Springs police Officer Robert Plyler saw a red Mercury passenger car westbound on Lakeshore Drive and noted the driver, later identified as Shaw, was not wearing a seat belt and then saw the vehicle cross the centerline.

As Plyler got closer, Shaw suddenly turned into a driveway in the 300 block of Lakeshore where the officer made a traffic stop. Shaw reportedly stated the house belonged to his girlfriend's aunt and he was stopping there to ask about "getting the kids." He said the owners of the house did not know him because he had never been there with his girlfriend, who owned the car he was driving.

Shaw reportedly could not provide a driver's license or insurance information and "seemed to be nervous," Plyler noted. A computer check determined Shaw's driver's license was suspended, so Plyler called for a K-9 to check the car.

Cpl. Brandon Jones and Keena responded to the scene and Keena allegedly alerted on the front passenger seat. The vehicle was searched and a dollar bill was found allegedly containing 0.3 gram of marijuana. Under the driver's seat, a 9-mm handgun was reportedly found along with a metal grinder.

Shaw was taken into custody and taken to the Garland County Detention Center where he was searched. A small baggie with more than 2 grams of crack cocaine, one ecstasy pill and a small amount of marijuana were allegedly found in the pocket of his shorts.

A computer check also revealed Shaw was previously convicted of a felony in Camden in 2012 and sentenced to five years probation.

Shaw was also cited Saturday for no seat belt, driving left of center, driving on a suspended driver's license, no liability insurance and driving a vehicle with no or expired tags.
