Wolves run roughshod over Leopards

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton scored on all seven of its first-half possessions en route to a 56-10 mercy rule win over Malvern Friday night at Wolf Stadium.

The Wolves (2-0) scored 21 unanswered points during a 3:25 stretch of the first quarter following a Michael Cervantes 35-yard field goal that gave Malvern the early 3-0 lead.

The Leopards (0-2) answered with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Parker Freer to Hunter Hogue that capped an eight-play, 68-yard drive with 1:23 to play in the first quarter. Lake Hamilton scored the next 35 points, including a 28-point second quarter that allowed the entire second half to be played with a running clock.

Malik Brewer returned from his one-game suspension to pace the Wolves with 135 yards and a 62-yard touchdown run on 10 carries. Dealond Lewis, also suspended for last week’s 31-27 win at Lakeside, had 82 yards and a touchdown on eight carries and caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Layne Warrick that extended the Wolf lead to 14-3 with 6:25 to play in the first quarter.

Warrick finished the night a perfect 5-for-5 for 115 yards and two touchdowns. His 23-yard scoring pass to J.T. Bardwell as time expired in the first half staked Lake Hamilton to a 49-10 halftime lead.

The Wolves racked up 398 first-half yards in 11 minutes of possession. Their first three drives found the end zone in less than a minute each, covering 80, 58 and 22 yards in 54, 48 and 55 seconds, respectively.

Carlos Brewer added 51 yards and a touchdown on five carries, and Braden Braughton scored from nine yards out to put the Wolves up 21-3 with 5:11 to play in the first quarter.

Defensive end Ray Hamp concluded the scoring, returning a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown at the 7:26 mark of the third quarter.

Lake Hamilton will be looking to go undefeated in nonconference play next week at Hot Springs (0-2), and Malvern will try to bounce back in its home opener against Lakeside (0-2).
