VV Questers to learn about US currency

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Vapor Valley Questers will meet for lunch at the De Soto Club in Hot Springs Village at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 17. The program will be presented by Keith Hammond, historian of American money and owner of Coins and Such.

Through the influence of his grandmother, Hammond became interested in coins as a teenager in Pennsylvania. He first came to Arkansas as a student at Harding College in Searcy, later going on to other schools in Texas.

While living in Texas, Hammond was a pastor and pursued a career in the medical supply field. Eighteen years ago, he and his wife moved to Hot Springs Village. Coin collecting continued to be a hobby throughout his life; today it is more than a hobby, it is a passion and livelihood. When asked what he liked most about collecting money, he quickly replied, "It's the history."
