September Yard of the Month announced

Over the last 17 years, Polly and Bob Revell have created a lush landscape with time and lots of hard work. A large front yard contains "more than several very large, randomly placed curving beds, surrounded by a lush lawn and mature trees."

Polly Revell started the first bed with roses and expanded as time went on to the others as sun and shade determined the types of plants and shrubs they would require. Hydrangeas, althea, crape myrtles, roses, hibiscus, coneflowers, hostas, balloon flowers, heuchera and ferns, to name a few, are planted in the beautifully maintained beds.

Passing through a vine-covered arbor into the backyard takes one past several altheas alongside the house and leads to a terraced backyard sloping down to the lake. A wide walk made of 6-by-6 timbers takes people through each level down to the lake. The walkway is flanked with beds of altheas, hibiscus, hydrangeas, ferns, containers of clematis and more.

Stone, block and rocks are used throughout the landscape -- again all the hard work of the Revells. Bob Revell says he is the lawn guy and his wife does all the plants -- great teamwork created a lovely yard to surround their home at 174 Lake Forest Shores Drive.

Anyone who knows someone who has a yard or business they would like to nominate for consideration as Yard or Business of the month may call the Garland County Extension Office at 623-6841 or email the name and address to [email protected].
