Saline County quilt show Friday and Saturday

BENTON -- The Saline County Quilters' Guild Heart of Arkansas Quilt Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Benton Event Center, 17322 Interstate 30, Benton. Admission is $5 per person; or $4 per person for groups of 10 or more.

On display will be a quilt entitled "The Supper" which was created by Don Locke and made from more than 50,000 squares.

Saline County Quilters' Guild promotes the art and craft of quilting though fellowship, education and outreach. It provides opportunities to enhance quilting skills through educational programs, meetings and workshops, and encourages quilting for the benefit of charitable causes.

The Saline County Quilters' Guild was formed in 1984 by a small group of women after they participated in Saline County Library's Learn-A-Bunch-At-Lunch program.

The guild's newsletter, Quilt Talk, is published monthly and includes committee reports and a schedule of upcoming events. It may be accessed online at http://www.quilttalk.org. As an annual fundraiser since 1984, members have made a group quilt to be given away as part of Benton's "Old Fashion Day."

The guild holds a quilt show biennially, exhibiting 150-200 quilts. QuiltMania, an annual retreat for members, provides a time for quilting, fun and the sharing of ideas. Workdays are held twice a month for members to construct charity quilts. Approximately 100 quilts are donated to various worthy causes each year. Workshops are held throughout the year and a yearlong project is presented in the 5:30 p.m. workshop preceding monthly meetings. A library of quilt-related books is maintained for the use of the membership.

Saline County Quilters' Guild currently has 110 members; dues are $20 per year, and membership is open to anyone who has an interest in quilting. Meetings are held at 6 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at Calvary Baptist Church, Benton.
