The Garland County Sheriff's Department has identified two juveniles as "persons of interest" in the Sept. 13 shooting of a local high school student.

The sheriff's department said in a news release that two male juveniles were arrested Friday for outstanding warrants.

"These two juveniles are considered persons of interest" for the Sept. 13 shooting of a female high school student who had been shot "multiple times" and was found crawling across Housley Point Road.

The juveniles are being held in the Garland County Juvenile Detention Center on unrelated charges, the release said.

Hot Springs police located an SUV Thursday night that was being sought in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old female high school student on Housley Point Road earlier in the day, according to police and the Garland County Sheriff's Department.

She remained in critical but stable condition Friday, sheriff's Sgt. John Schroeder said.

Counselors at Fountain Lake Charter High School, where she is enrolled in virtual courses online, were providing counseling to students as needed on Friday, according to Steve Campbell, director of instructional services and federal programs coordinator for the Fountain Lake School District.

She is also enrolled at National Park Technology Center, a National Park College official said Friday.

A Hot Springs police officer on patrol found the vehicle, a maroon 2002 Honda CRV, abandoned in the 100 block of Spargo Street at 7:51 p.m. and notified the sheriff's department, which retrieved it, police Cpl. Joey Williams said Friday.

"(The car) is being processed for evidence by our criminal investigation division," Schroeder said. "They are trying to work up a suspect or suspects in the case. At this point, they're still trying to piece it all together and hopefully develop a person of interest."

The sheriff's department had issued a "Be on the Lookout" to other agencies and sought the public's help in locating the vehicle, although the exact role the vehicle played in Thursday' incident has not been released.

The student was found crawling across the 100 block of Housley Point Road, located off the 400 block of Amity Road, around noon Thursday.

A news release said the Garland County Dispatch Center received a call of a female who had been shot and was lying in the road on Housley Point at around 12:07 p.m. Thursday.

Schroeder said at the scene Thursday the student had apparently been shot "multiple times."

LifeNet, which responded within 10 minutes of the initial call, airlifted the shooting victim from a landing zone set up in the parking lot of Harps Food Store, 5536 Central Ave., at around 12:41 p.m. and transported her to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock.

Under Sheriff Jason Lawrence, asked about reports the shooting was the result of a carjacking, said they were "investigating all possibilities at this point."

One of the first people to find her was a dump truck driver who was delivering materials down the road and stopped to help, according to the truck's owner, Michael McHenry.
