OMH to hike Little Blakely Thursday

Audubon Society to meet Thursday

Garland County Audubon Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3819 Central Ave. The public is welcome to attend.

Jenn Menge, park interpreter at Lake Ouachita State Park, will speak about scorpions, including their biology, interactions with humans, and their intriguing medical and scientific qualities.

Menge is relatively new to Arkansas State Parks, having worked as an interpreter in Texas and Louisiana state parks as well as national parks for over seven years. While not working in parks, Menge enjoys visiting the many great national and state parks around the country.

Henderson Lunch Bunch to meet Friday

Henderson Alumni Lunch Bunch will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday at West Shores Retirement Community, 2607 Albert Pike. Jim Atwell will be the speaker.

Atwell was a dual-sport athlete for the Henderson Reddies, a three-time All-AIC selection in basketball and a two-time letterman in baseball. He coached four seasons at Sparkman where he won the 1962 Class B state title. He coached 17 years at El Dorado and won the 4A state title in 1976 and was named Arkansas Basketball High School Coach of the Year. Atwell was inducted into Henderson State Hall of Honor in 2018.

Poets Roundtable to meet Thursday

Poets Roundtable of Hot Springs will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Garland County Library. The Inspirational Poet will be Delores Hinde. Jodi Tooke and Marie Allison will read their selection of poems in honor of National Poetry Month, Linda Woodbury will give the lesson on Cinquain sequence, and everyone will read a humorous poem. The public is welcome to attend the free event.
