The Garland County Historical Society will present "Growing Up in the World of Quartz," a program by Lisa Coleman Carey, when it meets at noon Tuesday at the Garland County Library. The public is welcome to attend.

Carey, the daughter of Ron and Betty Coleman, the owners of Ron Coleman Mining in Jessieville, will discuss both the Coleman family's involvement with quartz and, in particular, the history of the Old Coleman Mine. Carey will share her wealth of knowledge about quartz crystals as she describes this longtime Garland County enterprise.

Carey was born and raised in Jessieville. After receiving degrees from Trinity University and the University of Arkansas, she worked for Murphy Oil Corp. as its employee communications communicator from 1993 to 1998. She then worked as the director of development at what is now National Park College. She owns All Things Arkansas and All Things Natural in downtown Hot Springs.
