Cobras take pair over Malvern, Perryville

FOUNTAIN LAKE -- Fountain Lake scored a run in six of seven innings en route to a 25-11 rout of Malvern Monday before the Cobras held on for a 5-4 win over Perryville in 10 innings Tuesday.

Malvern (13-7) took an early lead over the Cobras (15-4, 9-2 3A-4), putting up three runs in the bottom of the first and four in the bottom of the second after the Cobras garnered just one in the top of the first inning. The Cobras got their bats swinging in the third, scoring seven in the top of the inning to regain the lead, 8-7.

Fountain Lake added three in the fourth and six in the fifth before the Leopard could plate another runner, Malvern pulling within 17-11 after five innings. The Cobras added one in the sixth before another seven-run inning to secure the win.

Jake Turner went 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs and six RBI, Kyle Fortner was 4-for-6 with a triple, three runs and two RBI and Bryce Stauder hit a two-run home run in the seventh for his only hit, finishing with three runs and five RBI. The Cobras finished with just 19 hits in the contest.

Sawyer Webb earned the win for the Cobras, allowing four earned runs off two hits, two walks and four hit batters while striking out two in three innings. Five other Cobras assumed the mound in the game, giving up the remaining seven earned runs off five hits, six walks and two hit batters while striking out five.

Braxton Allen collected the loss for the Leopards, allowing nine runs off seven hits, three walks and three hit batters while striking out one in 3 1/3 innings. The remaining four Leopard pitchers gave up 16 runs off 12 hits, eight walks and three hit batters while striking out seven.

On Tuesday, Perryville got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the third, and both teams added two in the fifth. Fountain Lake forced one across the plate in the top of the seventh and kept Perryville scoreless to force extra innings.

Both teams added one in the eighth before the Cobras managed to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th and held off the Mustangs for the win.

Stauder hit his second home run in as many games, a solo shot in the seventh, as he went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and one RBI. Webb led the Cobras at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Turner collected the win, allowing one earned and one unearned run off six hits and four walks while fanning nine in six innings of work. Bryce Brownlee started the game on the hill, allowing two earned runs off six hits, four walks and one hit batter.

Perryville's Tate Jones got the loss, allowing one unearned run off three hits and one walks while striking out two in three innings. Perryville's other two pitcher allowed four runs off five hits and five walks while striking out eight.

The Cobras host Lamar Monday at 4:30 p.m. Malvern will travel to Glen Rose Friday.
