HSV Rotary awards scholarships

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Rotary Club of Hot Springs Village honored outstanding students who received this year's Rotary scholarships at its April 11 meeting.

The Rotary scholarship program is supported by the club's fundraising activities and is aimed at providing financial assistance to area students seeking to continue their education after high school. To qualify, students must have an ACT score in the range of 20-26 and family income must not exceed a certain level. One student each will be selected from Christian Ministries, Fountain Lake, Jessieville, and Mountain Pine if applications are submitted from the schools.

This year's scholarships were awarded to high school seniors Bree-Lynn Taylor from Christian Ministries, Grace Robertson from Jessieville, and Dylan Wasson from Fountain Lake. There is also an application category for students who are currently enrolled at colleges or vocational schools. Those scholarships were received this year by Shanna Porterfield who attends Arkansas State University, Ali Meeks from Henderson State University, Sarah Miller who goes to Southern Arkansas University, and Haley Riggs from the University of Central Arkansas.

This year, 21 applications were received. They were reviewed by the club's scholarship committee, which is comprised of Rotarians Pam Galloway, Jack Rueter, Craig Welle, and Jim Zahnd. Rotary is a service organization that is open to all men and women.

Guests are always welcome at the Hot Springs Village Club which meets in the Fireside Dining Room at Good Sam's, 121 Cortez Road, Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. Visit http://www.hsvrotary.org for more information.
