Charles and Naomi Heckel

Charles and Naomi (Schmucker) Heckel, of Hot Springs, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lake Hamilton Church of the Nazarene, 200 Lockhaven Drive, hosted by their children and grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to attend.

The couple met their freshman and sophomore year at Alden High School in Alden, Kan., while serving on a committee to plan a party. They started dating prior to the party and continued dating all through high school. They were married on Feb. 14, 1949, in Sterling, Kan.

They are the parents of five children, Sharon Heckel Tidwell, who died in 2006, Joy Heckel Savage, Marilyn Heckel Trusty, Charles (Bud) Heckel, and John Heckel. They have 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Charles Heckel retired from Union Carbide in 1985 and began working as a cabinet maker. Naomi Heckel was a homemaker for the majority of her life but did work for Coca-Cola in Hot Springs for several years. They moved to Hot Springs in 1967 from Colorado and are members of what is now Lake Hamilton Church of the Nazarene.

Emual and Gretta (Esta) Hunt, formerly of Hot Springs, recently celebrated their 65th anniversary in Benton, where they now reside.

They were married Oct. 31, 1953, at the Saline County Courthouse in Benton. As part of their special day, they returned to the courthouse on their 65th anniversary and posed for a few photos.
