The 2019 American Heart Association Heart Ball was held Saturday at Horner Hall in the Hot Springs Convention Center, featuring the introduction of the 2019 American Heart Association Sweethearts.
The American Heart Association Sweethearts are a group of high school sophomores and juniors who commit to learning about cardiovascular diseases and lead healthy lifestyles by participating in heart-healthy activities.
The young ladies have participated in heart-healthy activities and educational opportunities that included fundraising for the American Heart Association, volunteering at National Park Medical Center, certification in infant and adult CPR provided by NPMC, a cardiovascular exercise day at FBC Fitness, a tour of the NPMC Cardiac Cath Labs and a LifeNet-sponsored ambulance dispatch ride-along.
Over the course of the program, the Sweethearts volunteered over 1,100 hours at the hospital in various departments including the Emergency Department, Health Information Management, Human Resources, Medical Imaging, Materials and the Cath Lab.
The Sweethearts also enjoyed a Father-Daughter Bar-B-Que sponsored by Smokin' In Style, and a Mother-Daughter soiree sponsored by Lauray's -- The Diamond Center, where Mark and Patti Fleischner presented each Sweetheart with a special gift.
Sweethearts were also required to write an essay about cardiovascular disease that was graded by an NPMC cardiology specialist. The official Sweetheart's photographer, 25mockingbird, provided portraits of each of the Sweethearts. During the Heart Ball, the Sweethearts performed a specially choreographed dance by Jessica Allen.
