5 Rams win divisions for runner-up Lakeside at 5A-West tourney

Five Lakeside wrestlers won their weight divisions Saturday as the Rams took second place on their home floor in the 5A-West conference tournament.

All 11 of Lakeside's top-four finishers finished in the top three, with three wrestlers winning their third-place matches. The five individual champions was the second-most of the eight teams at the meet.

Greenwood had six individual champions and 10 wrestlers finish in the top three of their divisions. The team had two wrestlers lose their third-place matches and finish fourth.

The Bulldogs finished with 194.5 points and the Rams were second at 182.5. Greenbrier, Russellville and Sheridan followed in places 3-5 with 142, 106 and 68 points, respectively.

Lake Hamilton earned 51.5 points for sixth place and Benton was seventh at 37. Hot Springs earned eight points.

Lakeside had its most success in the larger divisions. The Rams' first-place winners were John Michael Fuller at 220, Jeremy Pakulak at 195, Garrett Garner at 182, Aaron Killian at 170 and Colton Burchard at 152.

Greenwood won its individual titles at 106, 113, 126, 138, 145 and 160. The only other teams to take individual titles were Greenbrier at 132 and 285 and Russellville at 120.

Fuller, a senior, improved to 34-3 with a win against Greenwood freshman Tyler Crossno (26-10) in the 220 final.

Pakulak (37-1), a junior, won the 195 first-place match over Greenbrier junior Jacob Keller (26-26). Lake Hamilton senior C.J. Reynolds (10-11) won the third-place match against Sheridan's Joseph Bryant (1-2).

Garner (36-4), a senior, won on decision in the 182 first-place match against Benton sophomore Tyler Cochran (2-1).

Killian (21-4), also a senior, won the 170-first place match against Russellville junior Cole Hathcote (24-7) by decision.

Burchard (38-4), senior, won by decision in the 152 first-place match against Greenbrier sophomore Andrew Hare (46-16).

Lakeside's runner-up finishers were Brandon Puckett at 160 and Brandon Tomlinson at 120. Russellville freshman Brexton Beach (23-6) bested Tomlinson (30-9), a junior, by decision in their first-place match.

Greenwood senior Dylan Wilson (26-6) took first against Puckett (27-15), a senior. Lake Hamilton junior Zach Bradley (28-9) won the 160 third-place match by decision against Greenbrier senior Auden Huff (34-27).

Lake Hamilton junior Austin O'Neal (18-5) gave the Wolves their best finish of the day, placing second to Greenbrier senior Landen Mazur (55-4) at 185. Lakeside senior Myles Jerrels (22-9) placed third past Sheridan's Chris Taylor (1-2).

Defending state champion Chance Mahan (36-5), a senior, earned third-place points for Lakeside at 132, winning his last match against Greenwood sophomore Tatum Sadler (14-16). Freshman Keaton Wasson (28-10) won his third-place match at 113 against Sheridan's Reagan Eades (0-2). Fellow Lakeside freshman Wirner Harris took third place at 106 without a final opponent.

Lake Hamilton freshman Titan Jackson (17-11) finished fourth at 126, losing a 6-5 decision to Russellville senior Seth Rhoades (9-9) in the third-place match.

Hot Springs sophomore Brandon Griffin (1-2) finished fourth at 145. Russellville junior Nathan Potter (4-8) won the third-place match.

The 11th annual Arkansas Activities Association-sanctioned State High School Wrestling Tournament is scheduled for Feb. 22 at the Jack Stephens Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
