Lakeside bowling teams qualify for state tourney

CONWAY -- Lakeside's girls' and boys' bowling teams will compete in the state tournament this week after each placed third at the 5A-West conference tournament on Friday.

Destiny Phillips led the Lady Rams with 439 total pins to receive all-conference honors. She bowled games of 145, 167 and 127.

Kaithlyn Nguyen also received all-conference honors with a 438 pin count. She bowled games of 127, 168 and 143.

Chloe Junkerman bowled a 408 series with games of 117, 130 and 161. Abby Shelby bowled a series of 378 with 126, 140 and 112 games. Rachel Langley's games of 99, 120 and 102 gave her a 3211 series. Paige Hines had a pin count of 191 in the first two sets with games of 97 and 94. Jenna Sims bowled a 114 in the final set.

The third-place finish qualified for Lady Rams for this week's Class 5A state tournament at the Allfam Bowling Center in Cabot. They will take on fellow West qualifiers Benton, Greenwood, Siloam Springs and Texarkana, as well as 5A-East qualifiers Greenbrier, Mountain Home, Nettleton, Searcy and Vilonia on Wednesday.

Lakeside's boys' team also placed third Friday and qualified for state "bowling on lanes that they have struggled on in the past few years," said Rams bowling coach Darrell Davis.

Landon Gray led the team with a 515 series. He bowled games of 200, 162 and 153.

Kade Arguello had the second-best pin count on the team at 511. His game scores were 166, 143 and 202.

Tyson Keeney bowled a 496 series with games of 175, 145 and 176. Kade Tarbet's 475 series included games of 146, 165 and 164. A series of 439 for Jimmy Tejcek featured games of 116, 147 and 176. Hunter Rhodes bowled games of 158, 165 and 106 for a 429 series.

The other qualifiers from the West for Wednesday's state tournament are Benton, Greenwood, Little Rock Christian and Siloam Springs. They will meet the East's qualifiers from Greenbrier, Mountain Home, Nettleton, Searcy and Vilonia.
