LHJH teams advance to CAJHC semifinals

CABOT -- Both of Lake Hamilton's junior high basketball teams won their first-round games on Monday in the Central Arkansas Junior High Conference tournament.

The junior Lady Wolves (18-7) were seeded fourth and defeated fifth seed Bryant, 45-41. Top seed Conway Blue also advanced on Monday past eighth seed Mount St. Mary.

Conway Blue and Lake Hamilton are scheduled for today's first semifinal at 5 p.m. in the Cabot South junior high gym at 38 Panther Trail. The girls' final is set for Thursday at 5 p.m. at Cabot High School.

Lake Hamilton was led on Monday by 21 points from Hayleigh Wyrick. The junior Lady Wolves led, 13-10, after the first quarter, but Bryant pulled ahead, 23-18, by halftime.

Six points from Ginny Higginbotham helped Lake Hamilton outscored Bryant, 12-9, in the third quarter for a 32-30 game going into the fourth quarter. Higginbotham scored another 11 points in the final frame.

Wyrick finished with 12 points. Annabelle Coppedge added six points.

Boys

Lake Hamilton junior high boys' team also advanced on Monday to today's first semifinal.

The junior Wolves (20-4) defeated Little Rock Catholic, 40-30. They will next play at 5 p.m. in the Cabot North junior high gym, 38 Spirit Drive.

Gavin Robbins led Lake Hamilton in scoring with 18 points. Chase Jessup and Ethan Watson added eight and six points, respectively.

The boys' final is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Thursday at Cabot High School.
