Monday's Letters to the Editor

National security

Dear editor:

As a matter of national security, protected borders are expected! If a nation did not protect her borders, it would be unnatural -- yet the leftist and the socialist news media have many people fooled into believing that America should support an open southern border.

I watch the news channels daily and I hear it said every day: "A wall is immoral" or "walls are medieval." I first didn't know what to think then I realized that they are simply nuts. The people who make these statements could be described as "hypocrites." I call them hypocrites because they lock their homes and cars yet condone leaving our borders open to any terrorist who wants to come in.

Does anybody remember 9/11? Do the advocates of open borders know or remember what 19 men did to this nation? We allow thousands of illegal aliens to cross our border every day! We have no idea how many of them are coming across only to regroup and destroy America from within. A person who condones open borders doesn't remember or simply doesn't know what a few dedicated people (who are willing to die for their cause) can do.

At this time, they're killing Americans a few at a time. Almost every day we hear of a murder or a horrendous crime committed by an "illegal immigrant."

Case in point: We've been taught to refer to them as "illegal immigrants" when in fact they are invaders, pure and simple! Call them what they are.

The horror of it all: When left-wing sympathizers say that a wall is immoral or medieval we simply describe them as "left-wing" and continue to elect them to run the nation. You should demand that they explain how a wall is immoral or medieval.

Nice homes in Mexico usually have a wall which is lined with broken bottles and are embedded in cement at the top so no one would care to climb over. I'm sure it is now razor wire.

Hatred for our president: Too many people hate our president so much that they have sold out American values. There are people reading this who believe our borders should be open to any person who wants to come in and not be protected from terrorists entering. Terrorists who want to kill our children, blow up our infrastructure and totally destroy this nation. We don't need another 9/11 type attack. You can't allow this many people who hate America and who are willing to die for their cause to unite without them (at least) being investigated. They have already shown us what they are capable of. I hope that people will wake up before it's too late and I think it's already too late.

I used to think that a move to Alaska was an option but now Australia is sounding better.

Heart valve awareness

Dear editor:

Feb. 22 marks the third annual National Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day. A common but little-known condition, heart valve disease occurs when one or more of the heart's four valves is damaged. This can result in major complications, possibly death.

HVD impacts as many as 11 million Americans. Yet, three in four people have little to no knowledge about it. Even worse, 25,000 people die every year from HVD, although effective treatment is possible in most cases.

Recognizing the signs and knowing what might put you at risk is the first step.

Those older than 75 years or individuals with a history of heart conditions are particularly vulnerable. Common symptoms include fatigue, dizziness, and shortness of breath, though some people might experience no symptoms at all. In this case, a simple check with a stethoscope can reveal a heart murmur, a common sign of HVD.

I urge you to join the national discussion surrounding HVD. It could save your or a loved one's life.
