FL outpaces Paris ahead of J'ville matchup

PARIS -- Fountain Lake's senior high boys' basketball team added another 3A-4 conference win on Friday, 54-39, on the road at Paris.

The Cobras (16-3, 6-1) took a 17-7 lead in the first quarter, but the Eagles (10-10, 3-4) cut into the deficit to make it 26-21 at halftime. The margin was 36-29 at the start of the fourth quarter, but the visitors outscored the hosts, 18-10, in the final frame.

Senior Ahman Johnson and junior Colton McMullin led Fountain Lake with 14 points apiece. Senior guard Chris Mungle finished with 11 points.

Senior forward Garrett Moore was the high scorer in the game with 20 points for Paris. Sophomore guard Dylan Krigbaum added 14 points for the Eagles.

Fountain Lake is in sole possession of second place in the conference behind Booneville (17-1, 7-0). Jessieville (14-5, 5-2) is alone in third place after a 61-43 victory on Friday at Atkins (5-10, 1-6).

The Cobras will be the home team on Tuesday when they meet the Lions for four games at Irvin J. Bass Gymnasium-Sammy Lambert Court. Fountain Lake won the first matchup between the two teams this season, 57-41, at Jessieville on Dec. 4.

* Fountain Lake's junior high boys' basketball team was also victorious Friday, but the junior Cobras needed a sizable comeback to pull off the win.

Paris outscored Fountain Lake, 15-7, in the third quarter Friday and took a 27-15 lead into the final quarter. The junior Eagles were held to three points in the final frame and a 21-point outburst carried the junior Cobras to a 36-30 win.

Evan East led Fountain Lake with nine points.

The junior Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Jessieville.

Girls

Fountain Lake's senior high girls' basketball team was unable to notch its first 3A-4 conference victory of the season Friday, fallling, 55-33, on the road against Paris.

The Lady Cobras (5-13, 0-7) trailed just 21-14 at halftime. They were outscored, 34-19, in the second half.

Paris (14-6, 4-3) is in fourth place in the conference standings. The Lady Eagles trail Atkins (15-3), Lamar (14-3) and Two Rivers (14-5), who are each 6-1 through the first half of the conference schedule.

Sophomore Presley Hamric led Fountain Lake on Friday with 11 points. Junior forward Emoree Martin and senior guard Cherokee Fields each finished with eight points.

Fountain Lake will next host Jessieville (10-9, 2-5) on Tuesday. The Lady Lions fell, 52-36, at Atkins on Friday.

* Paris also won the junior high girls' basketball game Friday.

Fountain Lake led, 11-9, after the opening quarter, but Paris moved ahead, 24-18, by halftime. The hosts outscored te visitors, 19-13, in the second half for a 43-31 win.

Karlie Craver and Sophie Skinner each scored eight points.
