A local man was arrested Thursday after allegedly going into the bedroom of his neighbor's young daughter and rubbing on her leg early that morning.

Edgar Dejesus Cano, 30, of 119 Manor Lane, Unit 4, was taken into custody at his residence around 2 p.m. and charged with a felony count of residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of harassment, punishable by up to one year in jail.

Cano, who lists no prior criminal history, was later released on $6,000 bond and is set to appear March 26 in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 6:30 a.m. Thursday, a woman reported a burglary that had just occurred at her apartment at 119 Manor Lane by a known suspect, identified as Cano, who is reportedly her neighbor.

The woman said she was awakened by her daughter yelling for help. Her daughter came into her room and told her there was a man in her room and she woke to find him kneeling beside her bed, rubbing on her leg and hand. She said when she started yelling for help, the man "tried to hush her up by shushing her."

The woman said she got up and found Cano standing in her living room. She said she asked Cano what he was doing inside her residence and he told her he was trying to get someone to shut their front door. When she told Cano she was calling the police, he fled the scene in a red Ford Mustang with a Kentucky license plate before officers arrived.

The woman told officers her front door was locked when she went to sleep, but there were no signs of forced entry.

Around 1:45 p.m. Thursday, the woman called police again to report Cano had returned to the apartment complex. Officers responded and the woman told them before they got there Cano had offered to pay her "to keep the police out of it."

Officers located Cano in the hallway of the complex and took him into custody without incident. The woman reportedly positively identified him as the one who had entered her daughter's bedroom without permission.

Cano was taken to the police department and questioned and reportedly stated he found the woman's door standing open. He reportedly admitted to entering the apartment without announcing himself or attempting to wake the woman up.

Instead, he walked through the living room, past the woman's room and into the children's bedroom. He then allegedly bypassed the younger brother's bed and walked over to the daughter's bed on the far wall. Cano reportedly admitted to rubbing on the girl's leg under her covers "to wake her up so she could shut the front door."
