AURORA, COLO. -- Dr. Rennet "Renee" Marie Lewis, 64, of Aurora, Colo., passed away on June 25, 2021, while vacationing in Iceland. She was born in Euclid, Ohio, but grew up in Hot Springs, Ark., where she has always considered home.

Renee graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing Science at Texas A&M University, and went on to become a National Board-Certified Doctor of Natural Medicine. She has 30 years of experience in various roles including emergency medicine, medical surgical, psychiatric supervision at a major hospital in Austin, Texas, and many years of personal 1:1 health education with a specialty in diabetes education. Most recently, she worked closely with physicians in a medical chart review process to determine hospital eligibilities.

She was proud of her Cherokee heritage and taught Native American healing arts and herbal medicine. Students who graduated from her program at the Institute of Bioenergetic Medicine received a Doctorate in Sacred Medicine where she served as the Department Head of Native American Spirituality and received an Ambassador Award in 2020. She was active in her community and worked passionately to save her neighborhood park in Denver, Colo.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin Richard 'Rick' Lewis and Martha Vi Reynolds Henning; and oldest daughter, Gitana Purma.

She is survived by her daughter, Danielle (Micah) Hale, of Rockport, Texas; sisters, Crystal (Floyd) Harvey and Hope Henning, of Hot Springs, Ark.; brothers, Scott (Debra) Henning and Hunt (Keri) Henning, of Alabama; numerous grandchildren; uncles; aunts; nieces; nephews; and cousins; and her partner, David Hill.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at Hot Springs National Park Gulpha Gorge Campground in Hot Springs, Ark. Please bring a lawn chair for seating. Officiating the service will be one of her very special uncles, the Rev. Bill Reynolds.

The family would like to sincerely express their deepest gratitude to the Arawakan Taino Tribal Indian Nations for their love and support during this time of loss.
