Poetry ‘truly free’ at weekend event

Truly Free Poetry is the theme of the poetry event that Poets in the Streets Inc. will host from noon-3 p.m. Saturday at Kenneth Adair Memorial Park, 358 Central Ave., and again from 3-7 p.m. at Maxine’s Pub, 700 Central Ave.

“Poetry belongs to the people,” Poets in the Streets co-founder Amoja “The Mo-Man” Sumler said of the purpose of the event.

“Poetry is irrepressible, unrestrained, unapologetic art smiling in the face of the mundane. It is for the people; it is by the poets; it is love.”
