Independence Day festivities will go off with a bang as area fireworks shows and activities are planned to celebrate America at a number of destinations this weekend.

Today

• The 2009 Spa Blast spectacular holiday celebration takes place in the infield at Oaklawn Park. Highlights include live music, a flyover by Black Hawk helicopters from the 77th Theater Aviation Brigade, mini air show, rock climbing walls, family fun park and more.

“It will be a spectacular show,” Tom Daniel of Spa Fireworks said Tuesday.
