Hundreds of residents of Garland County celebrated the Fourth of July by honoring veterans – past, present and future – with the dedication of the Veterans Memorial of Garland County on Saturday at the south end of the Transportation Plaza, near Orange Street.

The memorial, which is about 80 percent complete, is more than eight years in the making, with the planning and fundraising started on Jan. 10, 2001. Since then, about $340,000 has been raised for the memorial’s construction and about $280,000 has already been spent.
