FAYETTEVILLE – Who said light bulbs can’t change the world? In Fayetteville, Mayor Lioneld Jordan is using light bulbs to teach, inspire and save.

After taking office in January, the mayor set to work on a program to replace incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamp bulbs or CFLs. Ultimately, he hopes all light bulbs in the city will be energy efficient, and he began with the lowest income housing.

CFLs generally cost a little more to buy, but the bulbs provide the same light with less power, last longer and omit less carbon dioxide.
