Heavy rainfall plagues dams, lakes

BLOCKED LANE: Pat Bradbury, with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, uses a portable pump to remove water from U.S. Highway 70 west at the east end of the Lake Hamilton bridge Tuesday morning after the outside, eastbound lane became blocked by water in the roadway. The water came from a malfunctioning storm drain on private property.

Additional flash flooding led Entergy Arkansas Inc. to increase the discharge from Remmel Dam on Tuesday, as rain fell at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour in the early morning hours.

Lake Hamilton peaked at 400.15 feet above mean sea level at 6:55 a.m. Tuesday, which is slightly above its normal operating rule curve, Entergy said.

Lake Hamilton’s operating rule curve – the band of low and high levels within which the lake levels are maintained – is between 398.9 and 399.9 feet msl, with a target elevation of 399.7 feet msl.
