Dear editor:

I read that Medicare expenses nationwide will exceed Medicare income and thus go in the red in about 10 years and that Social Security will go in the red in about 13 years. These events will occur earlier than expected because of reduced FICA and Medicare taxes being paid because of high unemployment. It will take several trillion dollars to correct this situation and place these programs on a solid footing.
