I am writing in response to the column by syndicated writer Marie Cocco in your June 17, 2009, newspaper. The columnist seems to believe that anyone in this country is allowed to own a gun. This is far from the truth. But anyone can probably get a gun, generally by breaking one of the many gun control laws that Ms. Cocco seems to think we don’t have enough of.

Laws have never stopped criminals from selling drugs - which kill many more people than guns - what makes her believe they will stop criminals from getting firearms?
