St. Joe’s Volunteer Auxiliary gives out bracelets

Program created to remind women of importance of mammograms

A simple bracelet of beads is helping women live healthier lives. Fashioned of about 100 tiny two-millimeter beads, with one 10-millimeter bead in the center, the bracelets serve to remind women to get mammograms.

Early detection is important to breast cancer survivorship and the tiny beads represent the size of a tumor that is detected by a mammogram. Meanwhile, the larger bead represents the size a tumor usually is before it can be detected during a self-breast examination.
