The United States Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear Missouri’s appeal of a court order prohibiting the state’s enforcement of a law that restricts protests near funerals.

In 2006, Missouri legislators enacted two statutes that created “buffer zones” between protesters and funerals or processions, but shortly thereafter, a lawsuit challenging the laws was filed and the federal appeals court in St. Louis barred enforcement until the litigation is resolved.
