Oktoberfest will return to HS

Oaklawn agrees to host annual festival


OCTOBER IN JULY: From left, Dave Byerly, president/CEO of The Greater Hot Springs Greater Chamber of Commerce, Mark Buhrow, owner of the Belle of Hot Springs, local radio personality Dick Antoine and Bobby Geiger, director of gaming and wagering at Oaklawn Racing and Gaming, gathered Tuesday at Oaklawn Park to announce plans for the 2009 Oktoberfest.
The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce, which announced in March that it was discontinuing Arkansas Oktoberfest after 34 years, on Tuesday announced a partnership with Oaklawn Park that will save the annual festival.

For the first time in its history, Oktoberfest will be held in the Oaklawn Park infield, on Oct. 17.

The one-evening event will still feature traditional Oktoberfest food and beverages, Polka music, and the crowd-pleasing “Chicken Dance,” Oaklawn and the chamber said in a press release.
