Painted war helmets a glimpse into owners

TIME TRAVELER: Robert White of Little Rock, director of the Wilson History and Research Center was on hand at MOCA showing a German M-44 helmet captured by an American serviceman who recounted his journey through the war years by painting the names of locations of his combat tours on the helmet and other travels that took him throughout the United States.

An exhibit of nine painted war helmets that reflect the personality of their owners are showing at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

The helmet collection is part of MOCA’s summer show, In Times of War, on view through August in the newly renovated Ozark Bath House on historic Bathhouse Row.

“The show also features sculpture pieces, photographic works and World War II envelopes,” curator Becky Newell said Friday.
