Work to drop Lake Ouachita in process

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Entergy Arkansas Inc. are working together to drop Lake Ouachita down into the winter pool after successive weeks of sometimes heavy rain.

Around 10,500 cubic feet per second of water was flowing Monday out of Blakely Mountain Dam, which forms Lake Ouachita, said Bill Jackson, supervisory park ranger with the Corps of Engineers’ Lake Ouachita Field Office.

Lake Ouachita is at its highest level since May, when above-normal rainfall caused Lake Ouachita to rise into the flood pool and led to numerous campsite closings. At one...
