After illness, Allen back in action on tennis court


SWINGING AGAIN: After a bout with mononucleosis last fall, Hot Springs’ Parker Allen has returned to top form in junior tennis, winning the Arkansas Junior Qualifying Boys 18s title last month.
Diagnosed with mononucleosis last fall, Parker Allen wasn’t sure if he would ever regain his best tennis form. But the incoming Lakeside High senior has rebounded nicely from the illness and is even thriving on the court.

The Hot Springs native entered the Southern Open Boys & Girls 18s Championships in Carrboro, N.C., dropping a three-set first-match to Roberto Hennis (Raleigh, N.C.) 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. He faced a consolation match later Saturday against Matthew Shemanski of Lawrenceville, Ga.
