FAYETTEVILLE — It seemed more seance than major news, the ballyhooed special announcement the University of Arkansas revealed Tuesday after bands played at the Walton Arts Center parking lot near Dickson Street and the railroad tracks.

Hugo Bezdek, the UA football coach who in 1909 caused the UA’s forgotten mascot of Cardinals forever to be changed to Razorbacks, was reincarnated Tuesday in the person of local actor David Wright. Wright re-created the legendary scene from which it was alleged Bezdek said his Cardinals “played like a wild band of Razorback Hogs.”
