The Cobras enjoyed a banner 2008 season in which they played in their first state championship game, losing to Charleston at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The defending Class 3A-5 conference champions scored 725 points in 14 games, averaging a state-record 51.8 points per game.

Although Fountain Lake returns several key starters, including senior quarterback David Gray and linebacker Tyler Snyder, the Cobras will be young overall.
