A flawed but earnest cartoonist biopic from Van Sant

Macabre is a word often associated with the late cartoonist John Callahan. He's the man who in his widely published cartoons, drawn in his signature squiggly style, poked fun at lesbians, Chinese people, the handicapped, women, Oprah, Alzheimer's patients, chiropractors and even sexual harassment in a cartoon that features a woman showing cleavage in a tight dress telling her similarly outfitted colleague "Remember...it's only sexual harassment if they're not dateable." His website proudly featured all the "hate mail" sent to the newspapers that published his cartoons. It's extensive.

NPPC photography club to meet Tuesday

The National Park Photography Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Garland County Library on Malvern Avenue. The meeting will feature a lesson entitled "Macro Photography Illuminated," where participants will explore macro photography in the digital world with explanations about lenses, depth of focus versus F-stop, focus stacking and what are the most important things to remember when trying a macro shot. Those who have never tried true macro shots may be awed with the view of the world very close up. Bring an example of a personal macro shot on a thumb drive, 1024 x 768 pixels. NPPC charter member Robert Sonnen will make the presentation.
