Businesses to provide Christmas Day meals

Two local businesses are volunteering their time and resources to make sure no one goes hungry on Christmas Day.

Doyle Spradlin, owner of Hawg's Pizza, said they have been so blessed that they wanted to share with others on Christmas Day.

Spradlin said Hawg's will open its doors to anyone who is hungry from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, or "until every one gets full." There will be no charge for meals, he said.

"God has moved me to do this," he said.

Spradlin said others have volunteered to help Hawg's and provide resources. Several individuals have donated turkeys, he said.

Fat Bottomed Girls Cupcake Shoppe is donating cupcakes for dessert, and one of Hawg's suppliers, Tankersley Food Service, is donating some of the food.

He said several of his employees and friends are volunteering their time to come and serve. Hawg's is also offering to pick up those who cannot drive and take them home and will deliver to those who are homebound.

"I am blessed and fortunate to be able to do this," he said.

Spradlin said one thing they can do for Christmas is to make sure anyone who is hungry gets fed on Sunday. They hope to feed 300-400 people, he said.

"This is what the staff at Hawg's Pizza wanted for Christmas this year."

For those who cannot eat pizza, he said they will serve other types of food.

Steadman's Physical Therapy also wants to make sure that emergency services providers do not go hungry on Christmas. Valerie Steadman, owner, said they will feed any law enforcement officer or emergency medical service member who works on Christmas Day.

She said it was their way of giving back to those who sacrifice their holiday with their family to keep others safe, and to show support and appreciation for law enforcement officers.

Steadman's Physical Therapy is located at 321 Section Line Road, Suite E, next to the U.S. Post Office. Their doors will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., she said.

Smokin' In Style BBQ is donating the food, she said, and employees and friends will volunteer their time to serve the emergency personnel. Steadman said she is making desserts.
