Countryside Animal Hospital hosts pet adoption event

Countryside Animal Hospital, 1107 Higdon Ferry Road, will host its second annual pet adoption event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature animals available for adoption from Hot Springs Animal Services and the Garland County Humane Society.

Pets adopted that day will receive a free exam and vaccines by one of the hospital's doctors, a heart worm test, flea/tick treatment, a bag of food and a bag of treats.

Guests will enjoy live music, hamburgers, hot dogs, popcorn, soft drinks, raffles and a silent auction.

"There's a myriad of things (for the silent auction)," said Elizabeth Pixton Wilkes, Countryside's hospital manager. "Most of what we have are like gift packages. For instance, one is a dog stroller that has a dog bed in it with a bunch of treats, a six-month supply of NexGard and a gift certificate to Fat Bottomed Girl's Cupcake Shoppe. So most of them are kind of packages like that with just miscellaneous things put together."

Other freebies and giveaways through raffles will include pet beds and treats, blankets, toys, picture frames, treat jars, and Garvan Woodland Gardens admission tickets.

"All of our employees are donating their time to work at this. All of our doctors are going to be there," Wilkes said.

Wilkes said 12 animals found homes as a result of the inaugural adoption event last year, adding that they will continue to do this every year "for the love of animals." All donations and proceeds from the event will go to support local animal shelters.
