A Russian Christmas Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday at Whittington Place, 301 Whittington Ave.

The concert will feature Barbara Muller, Bob Nagy and Russian dancers, Dev4ata, with concert violinist Oksana Pavilionis.

The performance will consist of traditional Russian dances and beautiful music, a news release said.

Pavilionis, who began playing violin when she was 5 years old, has performed throughout Europe and the United States, playing music from classical to jazz to folk. Pavilionis performs in the Texarkana and Fort Smith symphonies and operates her own music lesson studio, Ovation Music Academy in Benton.

Russian dance group Dev4ata, of Pine Bluff and Hot Springs, shares Russian traditions in the United States by creating its own costumes, choreographing dances and sharing the rich culture of the Russian people, the release said. The group formed when four women from different Russian towns met in Pine Bluff. Twins Yelena House and Svetlana Clemmons met Larisa Kachowski and, later on, Olga Calvert, and they formed a Russian collective. The group gets together to sew costumes and create their own dances.

Muller and Nagy are the group Europa, which plays traditional folk music from all over the world, but its musical heart is in the region from Moscow to Budapest. The group performs at Steinhaus Keller on Friday nights.

Muller has played keyboard since she was a young girl and took up the accordion in 1982 when her family moved onto a sailboat.
