The body of a deceased adult was found Wednesday afternoon by a passer-by in a vacant lot at the intersection of Spring and Illinois streets, Hot Springs police said.
The gender, age and cause of death were not being released.
Officers responded to the scene at 2:10 p.m. and located the body, Hot Springs police Cpl. Kirk Zaner said, noting that at this time the deceased has not been identified and a cause of death is unknown.
Police detectives and crime scene personnel also responded to process the scene and begin the investigation.
Zaner said a passer-by spotted what was possibly a deceased person and alerted police.
The body is being sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy to determine the cause of death and for a positive identification.
Police asked that anyone with information about the incident should contact police at 321-6789.
