Dr. Eric Carson of Hot Springs is joining chiropractors nationwide during National Chiropractic Health Month this October to encourage the public to move more, to #Move4Life, to improve overall health, as well as maintain strength and mobility as they age.

In addition to its benefits to the cardiovascular system, physical activity is vitally important to the health of bones, muscles and joints -- known as the musculoskeletal system. Movement helps the body to nourish this system, giving it strength and stability, which in turn reduces the risk of back pain and helps prevent falls and other injuries that can cause disability. Statistics show that more than half of all U.S. adults do not get the recommended level of physical activity.

Back pain is the single leading cause of disability worldwide. It is also one of the most common conditions for which opioid pain medications are prescribed.

With concerns today about the overuse of opioids, it's essential for health care consumers to understand that spinal manipulation and other nondrug treatments that chiropractors provide can get them moving again by alleviating painful and disabling conditions such as low back pain.

"If you move more, you're more likely to experience better health and mobility as you age," says Carson in the press release. "However, pain is an obstacle for many people. Chiropractic care can help alleviate painful musculoskeletal conditions such as low back pain safely and effectively -- and without the use of drugs -- and get people moving again."

Carson, a third-generation chiropractor, is celebrating his 25th year of practice in Hot Springs this fall. His practice, Body In Balance Chiropractic, located at 1557 Airport Road, focuses on improving the health and well being of Hot Springs and surrounding areas.
