State asphalt industry

honors paving project

The Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association named the city's paving of Fox Pass Road and Seventh Street as its 2018 State Aid City Street project of 2018.

Guy Washburn of Cranford Construction Co. presented the award at Tuesday night's Hot Springs Board of Directors meeting. State aid provided $245,421 to pave Fox Pass from Park Avenue to the county line and Seventh Street from Hobson Avenue to Emory Street.

Washburn said the Arkansas Department of Transportation nominated the project.

"I'm here to present this tonight and congratulate you on some excellent workmanship and materials for this project," he said.

Washburn said asphalt for the project was sourced from Cranford's Jones Mill plant. The city awarded its 2018 and 2019 paving contracts to Cranford. The annual paving list was approved in February, with the city budgeting more than $900,000 from the general fund and its state turnback allocation to overlay 4.48 miles of streets.
