More than $70,000 in scholarships were awarded to National Park College nursing and health sciences students at the college's Nursing and Health Sciences Honors Day on Thursday.

A total of 105 students received scholarships from 117 community organizations and private donors, several of which were NPC alumni.

This year's event featured the addition of NPC's allied health programs along with the nursing program. These allied health programs included radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, medical laboratory technology, health information technology, and our paramedic and emergency medical technician, or EMT, emergency medical services.

"Today is not only about scholarship and achievement. It's about recognizing the struggles our students have gone through and are going through, and our donors and their heart for our allied health providers," said Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences Janice Ivers in a news release.

Ivers shared her hopes that seeing other alumni providing scholarships will inspire current students to give back to NPC in the future.

Donors play an important role by assisting the student financially and mentally, according to Ivers.

"I believe the scholarship award gives students a vote of confidence and the encouragement they need to persevere," she said in the release.
