HSCB concert, Kiwanis ice cream social April 28

Musicians from different generations will play side by side to usher in spring and summer on April 28 during the Hot Springs Concert Band's spring concert at The Woodlands in Hot Springs Village.

The 3 p.m. concert will be preceded by an ice cream social at 2 p.m. provided by the Kiwanis Club of Hot Springs Village. Half the net proceeds from the concert will be used by Kiwanis to support their programs for local children and youths.

"In the spirit of the true American community band, the musicians range from teenagers to octogenarians," the band said in a news release. Together, they will usher in the spring and summer with tunes including "Summertime" from "Porgy and Bess," "The Hounds of Spring," and "American Riversongs."

The ice cream social will be held outside in front of the concert hall. Tickets are $12 and are available from any Kiwanian, any band member, Crook's Music in Hot Springs, the Ponce de Leon box office from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, or online at http://hsvpoa.org/event-tickets/.

"The band uses our April and December concerts each year to help support local children through the work of our wonderful Hot Springs Village Kiwanians. Last year, we raised over five thousand dollars for this critical work," said band President Bruce Harvey.
