Officer to address The Melting Pot Genealogical Society April meeting

Hot Springs police Cpl. Joey Williams will speak on "The History of the Hot Springs Police Department" at the regular monthly meeting of The Melting Pot Genealogical Society, 649-B Ouachita Ave., at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Williams will give some of the behind-the-scenes facts about the early days of the police department in Hot Springs. He will also tell some of the stories about the "bad old days," in addition to facts about notable police personalities and the department's significant accomplishments throughout the years.

Williams is a Garland County native with longtime family roots in the community.

The Melting Pot Genealogical Society is collecting annual dues of $25, which includes monthly newsletters and its annual publication, The Kettle. Its library and its meetings are open to the public. The library has more than 9,000 publications, CDs, microfilm and microfiche and several public-use computers. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Friday or by appointment, 624-0229. The library staff is an all-volunteer group of people interested in preserving and making available to the public the histories of families of Garland County and other areas.
