Heels to Hammers, an annual event focused on women building a Habitat for Humanity home, will take place April 30 through May 4 on Watt Street.

Participants in the fifth annual event will build each day from 9 a.m. to noon, and choose which day, or days, they are able to work.

Over the course of five days, the Habitat for Humanity teams will create the two new family homes, side by side, on Watt Street.

"From swinging a hammer to landscaping a yard or painting a room, this event encourages women of all skill levels to participate in building a Habitat for Humanity home. In addition to helping two deserving families receive a home, this week gives women a sense of camaraderie and team-building opportunities. And yes, men are welcome to build, too," Habitat for Humanity said in a news release.

"Women of all skill levels will have the opportunity to become part of a construction crew that does everything from swinging a hammer and installing insulation, to painting and landscaping," the release said, and participants will "work side by side with two deserving families to build each one a decent, affordable home."

"This is the fifth annual build that encourages women to be involved in the construction of GCHFH homes. While men are not excluded, Habitat uses this special week to encourage women to participate in who might not otherwise be involved," it said.

This year's presenting sponsor of Heels to Hammers is Window Mart. Lowe's Home Improvement and Hot Springs Village are Hammer Sponsors. Community partners providing refreshments and meals to volunteers include Chick-fil-A, LongHorn Steakhouse, ABI Insurance, The Hotel Hot Springs & Spa, and Kollective Coffee+Tea.

Garland County Habitat for Humanity, which was founded in 1995 and has built 140 houses to date, will hold a double dedication for both Heels to Hammers houses and will invite all volunteers to participate in welcoming home two new families. The dedications are tentatively scheduled for late summer to early fall, the release said.

Registration is $35 per day. Each participant will receive a T-shirt, nail apron, safety goggles, construction pencil, and work gloves. Coffee, refreshments and lunch are provided by community partners.

Participants need to arrive between 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. to check in, sign waivers, and collect supplies. To register, follow the link on the Garland County Habitat for Humanity Facebook page or visit http://www.garlandcountyhabitat.org, or call 501-632-5600 for more information or to register.
