OPNA to hold litter pickup Saturday

Oaklawn Park Neighborhood Association will hold a litter pickup from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, with a rain date of Sunday, from 2-4 p.m. Meet at the First Baptist Church back parking lot and bring gloves and a bucket, since it is easier to collect in a bucket than a plastic bag. Grabbers and vests will be provided by OPNA.

The litter pickup will be concentrating on the streets between the First Baptist Church and West St. Louis. All residents that live within the district's boundaries of West St. Louis on the north, Vineyard on the south, Seventh Street on the west, and Central on the east are welcome to join. A membership is $10 a year.

Evening Lions prepare for Hamburger & Brat Day

The Hot Springs Village Evening Lions' 40th annual Hamburger & Brat Day, featuring sizzling hamburgers and Wisconsin brats hot off the grill, savory baked beans, creamy cold slaw, and ice cream, will be held at a new location, the Balboa Baptist Church Outreach Center, on Saturday, May 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Also new this year will be a silent auction.

"It takes weeks of preparation printing and selling of tickets, assigning members to work stations, ordering the food, gathering items for a silent auction and distributing posters to be displayed in local establishments," a news release said. "Look for banners across from the Village gates reminding people of this upcoming event. An all-out effort by the club's members is required to provide Village residents a delicious picnic meal while generating funds to support charitable organizations."

The Lions Hamburger & Brat Day is the last of four major fundraisers in the Evening Lions Club calendar year that ends June 30. All moneys raised are donated to charities that help people who are sight and hearing-impaired, support the prevention and treatment of diabetes and treat childhood cancers. The Evening Lions Club will donate more than $50,000 this year to these charities. Since it was founded in 1972, clubs have donated over $1.5 million.

"Club members appreciate the generosity of Village residents that have supported Lions fundraising events," the release said.
