A local man with a history of domestic violence was arrested late Saturday and charged with felony battery for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend repeatedly over two days.

William Corey Overton, 36, of 1870 E. Grand Ave., Lot 52, was taken into custody at his residence shortly before 11 p.m. and charged with third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to six years in prison.

He was initially held on zero bond and appeared Monday afternoon in Garland County District Court via video where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. Judge Joe Graham set his bond at $50,000 and issued a court order barring him from contact with the victim. A felony review hearing is now set for Sept. 9.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, Hot Springs police Officer Taylor Gates responded to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs regarding a battery and spoke to a woman who stated that throughout the last two days she had been beaten multiple times by her boyfriend, identified as Overton.

She said the first incident occurred around 4 p.m. Friday as they were driving in Overton's vehicle when they got into an argument. She said Overton began punching her in the face with one blow causing a severe laceration to her forehead, resulting in a "large amount of bleeding."

Gates noted the woman had extensive bruising and swelling to her face and a laceration to her forehead.

She said she and Overton returned to his residence that day where she used Super Glue to stop the bleeding. She said she was then beaten multiple times throughout the day Saturday, but could not provide exact times for each occurrence.

During one attack, she said he struck her on the right shoulder with a guitar, causing the guitar to break. Gates noted she had a large bruise on the back of her shoulder. She said during two of the attacks, Overton punched her hard enough to cause her to lose consciousness for several minutes.

She said she attempted to block the blows with her right arm and right hand and Gates noted the back of her hand and right arm were swollen and bruised.

A computer check revealed Overton was previously convicted on July 21, 2011, of misdemeanor third-degree domestic battery and on Sept. 27, 2012, and June 27, 2013, of felony counts of third-degree domestic battery.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Gates went to Overton's residence where he made contact with the suspect and took him into custody.

Jemmerio Tyrell Brown, 18, who lists a Bailey Place address, was taken into custody shortly after 4 p.m. and charged with a felony count of breaking or entering, punishable by up to six years in prison.

Brown was being held on $2,500 bond and appeared via video Monday in Garland County District Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge. A felony review hearing is set for Aug. 19.

According to the probable cause affidavit, around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 200 block of Spring Street regarding a disturbance with a gun and arrived to find one man holding a second male, later identified as Brown, at gunpoint on the sidewalk.

Officers reportedly learned the man with the gun had been inside the Great Escape building, 202 Spring St., on the second floor and looked out to see an unknown man "sneaking around" his friend's 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, which was parked on the curb next to the building.

He said he saw the man, later identified as Brown, open the Tahoe's door and get into the driver's seat. He said he ran down the stairs and confronted Brown at gunpoint and held him there until police arrived.

A female witness reported she also saw Brown inside the vehicle and had "rushed down the stairs" to help the other man remove Brown from the vehicle.

After he was read his rights, Brown reportedly admitted to being in the driver's seat of the Tahoe and "continuously apologized" for entering the vehicle.
