Baseball field questions

Dear editor:

Just had some questions about the proposed Majestic baseball fields I'd like answered by city officials before I vote on Sept. 10 yes or no to this $8.5 million project.

Obviously, city officials feel confident in the passage -- they've already removed all fencing from the prior fields and demolished the dugouts. Who got that contract, and how much were they paid? Was there any attempt to recycle the steel, and where and to whom did that money go?

How many parking spaces will there be? If this is as successful as city officials would have you believe, it doesn't seem like there will be enough.

Who is the general contractor on the project? How and when did the bidding take place?

What types of security measures such as police presence when large events are taking place have been enacted? How will that be paid for moving forward?

Obviously, there will need to be a director hired, in charge of field use, upkeep, maintenance, and the scheduling of games and tournaments. Has that position been filled? If so, by whom and at what salary?

Finally, after paying off the bonds, has a study been done on whether this facility can, and will be, self-sustaining and possibly profitable? What are those projections?

These are legitimate questions I feel taxpayers need answers to before committing to this tremendous sum of money for something many won't use. We're owed these answers since it's our money.
