U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Richard A. Midkiff, of Hot Springs, was recently awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his work with Task Force Fortnite at Fort McCoy, Wis.

Midkiff was recognized for meritorious service as Battle NCO for Task Force Fortnite in support of convoy protection platform qualification. His dedication and contribution to improved operation were vital to the creation of guidelines that enabled an efficient flow of data and effort, the certificate said.

"His actions reflect great credit upon himself, Task Force Fortnite, Operation Cold Steel III and the U.S. Army," it said.

The operation ran from Feb. 20 to April 20.

• U.S. Air Force Airman Masen C. Ross, the son of Randy L. and Deena A. Butler and brother of Jerney E. Butler, all of Pearcy, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Those who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Ross is a 2018 graduate of Lake Hamilton High School.

• U.S. Air Force Airman Joe-Elliott Guimond, the son of Sunni Guimond of Hot Springs, graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio.

He completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Those who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Guimond is a 2005 graduate of Lake Hamilton High School.
